Physical Description Kytolos Sh’reyva stands tall and broad-shouldered, his frame still carrying the strength of a lifelong Imperial Guard officer despite the weight of years and old injuries. His skin bears the deep blue hue of Andorian polar ice beneath winter shadow, marked by a jagged plasma scar running from the left side of his jaw to the hollow of his collarbone--a wound sustained aboard the Vorchal years earlier.

His pale white hair, once worn in strict Guard fashion, has begun to silver unevenly at the temples and along the crown. One antenna bears a cauterized ridge midway down its length, permanently stiff from battlefield trauma. The other remains sharply expressive, often betraying alertness before any change reaches his face.

Age has slowed him only in appearance. He moves with purposeful precision, each gesture economical and controlled, carrying the authority of someone long accustomed to command. His voice is low and restrained, sharpened by years of military discipline, though flashes of sudden intensity still emerge when his convictions are challenged.

There is a fatigue about him now that did not exist in younger years. It is not weakness, but the heavy stillness of a man who has survived too much to waste energy pretending otherwise.

Personality & Traits

General Overview Kytolos Sh’reyva is a man shaped by older winters.

A veteran of the Romulan War and a lifelong officer of the Andorian Imperial Guard, he carries himself with the rigid discipline of someone who learned many years ago that grief is best endured in the quiet. Age has not softened him so much as tempered him into something a little colder. He speaks little, observes constantly, and possesses the unsettling habit of noticing dangers others dismiss until it is much too late.

Among Starfleet officers, Kytolos is often regarded with wary respect. He distrusts easy optimism and remains skeptical of the Federation’s belief that old rivalries have truly faded. His suspicion toward Vulcans has cooled from open hostility into measured caution, while Humans continue to perplex him with their strange mixture of recklessness, compassion, and idealism.

Though severe in his manner, he is deeply protective of those under his authority and carries every loss personally. The destruction of the Vorchal remains a quiet wound within him, one that has left him wary of politics, haunted by compromise, and increasingly uncertain whether the Federation actually remembers the true cost of peace.

Kytolos does not seek friendship or admiration. He serves because duty is the only thing he has ever trusted completely, and because some part of him still believes someone must remain watchful while others grow comfortable.
Strengths & Weaknesses Strengths:

Veteran Strategist: Decades of combat and command experience have given Kytolos a near-instinctive understanding of tactical crises, border conflicts, and military escalation.

Composed Under Pressure: In emergencies, his voice grows calmer rather than louder. He is difficult to rattle and remains steady even during chaos.

Commanding Presence: He leads through quiet authority, discipline, and competence rather than charisma. Subordinates tend to trust him because he has survived the things he warns others about.

Protective Leadership: Though emotionally reserved, he is deeply committed to the safety of those under his command and takes casualties personally.

Perceptive Observer: Kytolos notices small inconsistencies in behavior, atmosphere, and procedure that others often overlook, making him difficult to deceive.

Weaknesses:

Emotionally Withdrawn: Years of suppressing grief and vulnerability have left him distant even from those closest to him.

Distrustful: His skepticism toward Vulcans, Federation bureaucracy, and political idealism can create friction with Starfleet personnel.

Rigid Sense of Duty: Kytolos struggles to compromise when principle, security, or military preparedness are involved.

Haunted by Failure: The destruction of the Vorchal continues to weigh heavily upon him, particularly because he believes his warnings prior to the incident were ignored.

Out of Step with the Times: He quietly fears that both the Imperial Guard and Andorian identity are being diluted within the growing Federation, leaving him increasingly alienated from the younger generation.
Ambitions Kytolos no longer seeks advancement or another command. The loss of the Vorchal ended those ambitions long ago. Still, he remains fiercely devoted to the Imperial Guard and wary of a Federation he believes is becoming too confident in the permanence of peace.

At Sentinel Station, he intends to ensure that caution, discipline, and hard-earned experience are not dismissed as relics of an older age. If another conflict comes, he means to be prepared for it--even if few others are.
Hobbies & Interests Military Miniatures: Constructs detailed recreations of historic battles and fleet engagements, specifically controversial defeats and last stands.

Classical Music: Privately enjoys traditional Andorian percussion symphonies and human cello compositions.

Polar Climbing: Returns to the northern ice ranges of Andoria during leave periods, preferring long solitary climbs.

Memorial Traditions: Continues observing old Imperial Guard remembrance rites for fallen crews and officers.

Personal History Kytolos Sh’reyva was born beneath the winter skies of Andoria’s northern reaches, where children learned early that survival was less triumph and more a way of life. He was raised among officers, veterans, and the old traditions of the Imperial Guard, in a household where duty was spoken of so highly that it dwarfed all affection.

He entered the Guard Academy at eighteen and spent much of his early career along disputed frontier territories, where his distrust of diplomacy first began to take deep root. The Romulan War hardened those instincts into certainty. By the time peace was declared and the Federation founded, Kytolos had earned distinction as commanding officer of the IGS Vorchal, a vessel respected for its discipline and its commander’s willingness to act where others would have hesitated.

Prior to the Romulan War, Kytolos suffered a more personal loss: the death of his beloved, Tirasha. After suffering from a lifelong autoimmune disorder, she succumbed to the disease in 2153.

For fifteen years, the Vorchal was his life.

Then came the Yenaris Incident.

In 2166, the Vorchal responded to reports of unauthorized activity near the Yenaris Corridor, a disputed region along the outer Federation frontier. Kytolos became convinced that Romulan operatives were conducting covert operations within the sector, despite diplomatic pressure urging restraint. Against standing orders, he pursued a vessel that briefly crossed into contested space.

What followed remains politically disputed.

There was weapons fire. Civilian casualties. A colony left burning. And somewhere within the confusion, the Vorchal itself was lost covering evacuation craft as its reactor failed.

Official inquiries stopped short of condemning him. Some believed his actions reckless; others privately admitted his suspicions may have been correct all along. The Federation chose caution over scandal. The Imperial Guard chose silence over disgrace.

Kytolos never received another command.

In the years since, he has served as advisor, attaché, and liaison officer along the Federation frontier--respected, useful, and kept always at a careful distance from power. He speaks rarely of Yenaris, although those who know him well suspect part of him never truly left the Vorchal.
